I’ve been noticing something peculiar as I go out and watch the dancers who are just starting to get a handle on things vs. the more seasoned social dance enthusiast…
They’re not relaxed!
Seriously, I think that the dance is more stressful than anything yet at the same time enjoyable. I imagine its akin to someone on a strict diet eating a slice of cheesecake, it’s great, but I hate it!
No need to fear true believers, we’ve all been here before. We must remember that we, as only 50% of the equation, can only do OUR PART. So yes ladies, that means you can’t dance FOR him and fellas, you can’t mangle her through things either.
One of the things that I have learned that is SO applicable not just to dancing, but life in general is this:
In other words, take a chance and try a new move as long as you don’t put the other person in harm’s way. And yes, try that new arm styling that feels weird at first, it will get better!
And here’s the best part of all. When you mess up, and you will, simply reset then SMILE.
A smile is a powerful weapon; you can even break ice with it! It will soften the blow off mistakes and put you and your partner back into a place of harmonious collaboration. We ALL mess up and it’s not just OK, it’s a huge part of the journey of getting better.
From this day forward, let’s all collectively re-frame the way we look at mistakes by instead looking at them as the stairway to success instead of the well of failure.
Here’s to messing up and loving it!
To your dancing!!!
