MAYAMBO PERFORMANCE CLASS!

Start Date: Saturday, November 18
Starting promptly at 3:00 p.m., Classes are all 60 minutes long. Each session will start with a basic warmup, a recap of prior material and then an introduction to new choreography. There will be plenty of time for repetition!

Meet your director
Christian Guerrero
Starting in the high school gym with salsa moves, bachata beats, and the lively energy of bomba y plena, Christian Guerrero got hooked on the Afro-Latin groove. That love took him straight to Island Touch Chicago, learning some slick moves from Kimberly Rivera, and diving headfirst into Chicago’s Afro Latin dance scene.
Wanting more, he found himself at Dance Center Chicago, learning with Jesus Aguilera and perfecting his flow at Mixed Motion Art with Del Dominguez. Before long, he was dancing with the La Mecca Chicago crew, soaking up dance wisdom from Laura Flores. Now, he’s back at Mayambo, united with Del once again. Over the past six years, he’s really dug into dancing on2, mastering those smooth shines and footwork. And just for some extra flair, he throws in vibes from Pachanga, Afro-Latin, and Traditional Bachata.
While he’s always on the lookout to learn more, Christian’s also been spreading the dance love, teaching moves to others for the past two years. Today, whether he’s hitting the dance floor or sharing his passion, Christian Guerrero is all about that dance life.

How will this work??

Can I join if I'm a beginner?
We’d recommend that you have at least 4-6 months of Salsa training in order to have a positive experience participating in this performance class. Aspiring dancers should feel comfortable dancing Salsa on2 and have some general awareness of the fundamentals of dance Salsa.
What are the commitments and details if I get accepted?
The class will meet on Saturdays from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Please make sure you’re able to commit to that scheudle before your sign up!
What should I wear for class?
Make sure to bring both shoes and clothes you feel comfortable in when you dance. We’d also recommend bringing water as we plan to work you out! If you’re someone who sweats, no worries, we ask that you bring an extra shirt as well. Other than that, just bring a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
How long is the Class?
The goal is to perform at the Chicago Internation Salsa Congress on the Feb 15-18th (Date determined at event).
As such, the class will be a three month project.
You’ll also have an opportunity to also perform at the Chicago Salsa and Bachata Festival on March 29th-31st. (THIS IS OPTIONAL and at the agreement of the group – There would then be one more month of dues added to reflect the extra 5 weeks of training.)
