How will this work??

This will be a special 14-week performance project with the goal of performing at the Chicago International Salsa Congress onb February 16-19th, 2023.

** Please note, we are not including the weeks of Christmas and New Years for rehearsal

Can I audition if I'm a beginner?

We’d recommend that you have at least 4-6 months of Salsa training in order to have a chance of participating in this performance opportunity. Aspiring dancers should feel comfortable with dancing Salsa on2 and have some general awareness of the basic fundamentals of dance Salsa in order to be considered and have a successful outcome.

What are the commitments and detials if I get accepted?

The project will meet once a week for 14 weeks. There is a possibility of meeting 2 more times, as we’re not including the weeks of Christmas and New Years.

Practice times will be on Saturday afternoons for one and a half hours. The exact time is TBD.

The cost will be a monthly amount of $90. Payments will be due at the time of the first practice and then at the beginning of the month of December, January and February.

What happens after the Chicago Congress?

In short, the project will come to a conclusion after the Chicago Congress Performance. If there is interest, we can also perform at the Chicago Salsa Bachata Festival (CSBF) 2023.

Participation at CSBF 2023 is optional and will only happen if a majority of the dancers want to participate.

If I want to continue working with Mayambo, how can I do so?

We offer weekly classes at our studio if you wish to further explore our style, and we welcome you to participate in class! If you wish to explore more performance opportunities after the project is done, we will have auditions after CSBF and you can be strongly considered for a spot on one of our ongoing teams!

What should I wear for the audition?

Make sure to bring both shoes and clothes you feel comfortable in when you dance. We’d also recommend bringing water as we plan to work you out! If you’re someone who sweats, no worries, we ask that you bring an extra shirt as well. Other than that, just bring a positive attitude and a strong work ethic to the audition.
