Three Major Areas Of Focus
As you know by now, the foundation steps of Salsa, Salsa shines and Partner dance technique are the building blocks of the dancing Salsa. Your ability to execute these areas of focus are crucial to developing your Salsa skills.
The Power Of Video - $90 value
People tend to lose upwards of 70% of the things they learn after one week. Not here! We’ll provide detailed video recaps of all of our course material in the Private Facebook group so you can review and remember the material.
90 Minute Classes = 6 hours
Our Intermediate Salsa Intensive provides our students ample time to focus on details and repetition. We’ll also have plenty of time to address any questiosn that arise and focus on making sure all fo our students understand the material they are learning.
Private Facebook Group - $85 value
Connect with your fellow classmates and have an opportunity to ask questions or get clarification from teachers about the course material that is taught in class. You can even use this private group to plan nights out to practice with your new dance friends!
Meet Your Teacher
Del Dominguez
Del Dominguez is the founder and director of the Mayambo Dance Company/Studio. He has over 20 years of experience dancing, performing and choreographing Salsa.
Del is one of the founding members of Chicago’s legendary Descarga Caribe dance company which was the city’s first Salsa on2 Dance Company. With Descarga, Del traveled the world performing alongside his mentor Sekou McMiller, in such places as Puerto Rico, London, Tokyo, Beijing, Rome, Mexico and all across the United States.
He has also danced professionally as a competitive Ballroom dancer in the American Rhythm division and has over 6 years of experience teaching, coaching and competing.
Del is a 4 time Salsa champion and most notably co-founded/directed the Mixed Motion Art Dance Company which were first place winners in the small teams division at the Ultimate Latin Dance Challenge.
Furthermore, he co-directed a theatrical piece for the prestigious Giordano Dance Company of Chicago which debuted at the Harris Theater to rave reviews from local media.
Del is currently invested in growing the Mayambo dance family and elevating his dance companies and the Chicago Salsa dance community as a whole.

The Mayambo Intensives are different than the rest
Designed by a multi-time Salsa champion, the Mayambo Intensive program is designed to get you up and running with your Salsa dancing, no matter your level.
Each lesson is contemporary in style and moves the students carefully down their path of Salsa success.
After completing our Intermediate Salsa Intensive you’ll feel even more secure with your Salsa dancing ability. As you know by now, our curriculum take you from the ground up and build you up to be a solid confident and concise dancer. Our step by step process ensures your success as long as you give yourself time and apply a good effort.
The beauty of salsa dancing is learning how to dance in harmony with another person and this can be achieved by repetition technical know-how repetition and quality guidance.
Our course will help you work on each of these elements and help you achieve dramatic Improvement in your dancing with consistency and time. You’ll notice a big difference in your understanding of your role as you continue through our training program. Before you know it, you’ll feel confident and sure of your ability no matter who you dance with on the social dance floor.
The Intermediate Salsa Intensive Is Great For You If:
- Taken at least 6 months of Salsa classes on2.
- You are comfortable with the timing of Salsa on2 and can focus your attention on technique.
- You actively go out social dancing but want to improve.
- You want to feel more confident as you do solo work/shines.
- You want to continue to improve your technique as a follow.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Is The Session?
This session is 4 weeks in total with special 90 minute classes which equal 6 classes! The extra time will help you retain the information you’re learning and provide ample time for questions and repetition.
What Kind Of Clothing Should I Wear?
We highly recommend you wear clothing that you feel comfortable in when you are actively moving. As for footwear, you should wear shoes that don’t have a sticky bottom and if you wear heels, please make sure they are dance heels that support your feet when you dance to avoid injury.
What Happens If I Miss A Class?
There is good news! While the obvious best option is to attend the class, as a backup, we provide videos to keep you up to date on the class material so you can practice at home. You’ll receive the material from class and won’t get left behind!
Do I Need To Come With A Partner?
If you and a your friends want to join us, then the more the merrier! Don’t worry though, if you sign up by yourself, rest assured that we will consistently rotate to ensure everyone gets a chance to dance, practice and have fun!
How Is The Parking?
There is free parking on the north side of North Ave as well as on the side streets adjacent to the studio. There is also metered parking directly in front of the studio. You won’t have trouble finding a place to park!
What Covid-19 Protocols Are In Place?
As announced in mid February, the City of Chicago will no longer require patrons to wear masks or provide proof of vaccination starting on February 28th. We respect everyone’s right to a comfortable and safe environment and support everyone’s individual decision on masking. We want to thank our students for their understanding and patience as we follow the city’s guidelines and stay in compliance with city ordinances.
As always, there will be plenty of hand sanitizer on hand for student use. We look forward to serving you in a safe and welcoming environment.
Del once told me that I would give up on me before he gave up on me, and he was right! Del is so patient. I’m not the quickest learner or the best dancer, but he’s very attuned to the strengths and weaknesses of his students…he doesn’t rush his students…and he’s very passionate about Salsa/Mambo. If you’re intimidated by the thought of privates, as I was, don’t be. He puts his students at ease. Every class is energy-filled and fun!
