Our Commitment to Safety in Dance

At Mayambo, safety isn’t just something we value—it’s woven into the fabric of who we are. We believe that dance spaces should be uplifting, inclusive environments where people can connect, grow, and express themselves without fear of harm or exclusion. That’s why we take active steps to cultivate a culture rooted in care, accountability, and mutual respect.

Our team is also deeply inspired by the work of Not Just Chisme, a coalition of dancers advocating for education, prevention, and healing within the Salsa world.

At Mayambo, we uphold our values through a clear and enforced Code of Conduct (see below), which applies at all classes, rehearsals, and social events.

Education is central to how we create safer spaces. Our instructors embed conversations around consent, communication, and dance etiquette into the learning process—so that these ideas become part of how we move, teach, and connect. Everyone we partner with—whether DJs, instructors, performers, or organizers—shares this commitment to safety before joining us.

Ultimately, our approach goes beyond policies—it’s about shared responsibility and care. We hold ourselves and our community to high standards, ensuring that Mayambo remains a space where everyone can feel welcome, empowered, and safe. We invite you, whether you’re a new student or a long-time friend, to join us in building a braver and more respectful dance culture.

Code of Conduct:

Mayambo is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and harassment-free social dance experience for everyone—regardless of skill level, dance background, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, body type, race, age, religion, or any other characteristic. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

Anyone violating this Code may be removed from class or events at the discretion of the instructor(s) or host(s). We ask everyone to help foster a respectful and safe environment. If something happens that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, please let us know.

If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual assault, please refer to the resources compiled by Not Just Chisme.
