Del here, you might have seen my face pop up on social media with the colorful ads on Facebook and Instagram. I run Chicago’s premiere Salsa dance studio, Mayambo.
I’ve been dancing, teaching and performing Salsa for over 20 years and have won 4 different Salsa championships in the process. I began teaching in 2004 and have been at it ever since, getting better as a dancer and instructor along the way. Now, in 2023, I’ve perfected my method for training people just like you to become confident and effective social dancers.
I’m not some random dancer who has been dancing for 3 years and think they know it all. I’ve personally developed dancers from the ground up into stellar social dancers and performers over the past two decades.

Now before we go any further, no curriculum can ensure results if the student doesn’t put in the effort. Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Is The Session?
Each session is 4 weeks in total. We’ve found through countless classes that 4 ninety minute classes provide a perfect amount of time for students to get ample opportunity to review, repeat and refine the fundamentals of dancing Salsa.
What Kind Of Clothing Should I Wear?
We highly recommend you wear clothing that you feel comfortable in when you are actively moving. As for footwear, you should wear shoes that don’t have a sticky bottom and if you wear heels, please make sure they are dance heels that support your feet when you dance to avoid injury.
What Happens If I Miss A Class?
There is good news! While the obvious best option is to attend the class, as a backup, we provide videos to keep you up to date on the class material so you can practice at home. You’ll receive the material from class and won’t get left behind!
Do I Need To Come With A Partner?
If you and a your friends want to join us, then the more the merrier! Don’t worry though, if you sign up by yourself, rest assured that we will consistently rotate to ensure everyone gets a chance to dance, practice and have fun!
How Is The Parking?
There is free parking on the north side of North Ave as well as on the side streets adjacent to the studio. There is also metered parking directly in front of the studio. You won’t have trouble finding a place to park!
What Covid-19 Protocols are in place?
As announced in mid February 2022, the City of Chicago will no longer require patrons to wear masks or provide proof of vaccination starting on February 28th. We respect everyone’s right to a comfortable and safe environment and support everyone’s individual decision on masking. We want to thank our students for their understanding and patience as we follow the city’s guidelines and stay in compliance with city ordinances.
As always, there will be plenty of hand sanitizer on hand for student use. We look forward to serving you in a safe and welcoming environment.
